Displayed at the National Science Museum in Gwacheon, South Korea, this full-body replica of Tyrannosaurus rex “Scotty” is one of only four in the world. The original fossil (RSM P2523.8) was discovered in Saskatchewan, Canada, and dates back over 66 million years. Restored over three decades and unveiled in 2019, Scotty is the largest known T. rex ever found, estimated to have weighed around 9 tons and measured 13 meters in length. The name “Scotty” was inspired by a bottle of scotch opened in celebration by the excavation team after the discovery. Despite its masculine name, skeletal features suggest the individual may have been female. Scotty is a highlight of the museum’s recently reopened Hall of Evolution.
