くくる Kukuru Takoyaki

Osaka, Japan’s second-largest city after Tokyo, is home to about 7% of the country’s population and approximately 10% of its foreign residents. Known as the “City of Kuidaore” (eating until you drop), Osaka is famous for its unique food culture and gourmet offerings. Signature dishes include takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and kushikatsu, while neighboring areas like Nada, Itami, and Ikeda are renowned for premium sake production.

Osaka is the birthplace of the famous takoyaki, with numerous high-quality takoyaki shops, including the well-known “Dotonbori Kukuru,” which features a giant octopus object. Takoyaki, a true icon of Japanese street food, consists of dough balls filled with octopus, fried in special molds to achieve a perfect round shape. They are traditionally served with takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, aonori (powdered green seaweed), and katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes).
