Located in Bunkyo, Tokyo Dome City Attractions is a large entertainment complex featuring the Thunder Dolphin (サンダードルフィン), a steel roller coaster designed by Intamin and opened in 2003. The ride reaches speeds of 130 km/h along its 1,098-meter track, which includes vertical drops, inversions, and a notable segment where the train passes through the center of the Big-O Ferris wheel.
The coaster’s layout is integrated into the urban environment, with its track elevated above the Tokyo Dome baseball stadium, the LaQua shopping mall, and other structures within the complex. This design allows riders to view the surrounding cityscape during the ride, while observers on the ground can watch the trains navigate the course from multiple vantage points.
Though I did not ride the Thunder Dolphin myself, watching it in action emphasized its importance as a central feature of the area. The sounds of riders’ excitement, paired with the lively energy of nearby arcades, food stalls, and stadium events, contribute to a vibrant atmosphere. The coaster’s close proximity to everyday amenities, like shopping and dining, highlights Tokyo Dome City’s unique mix of leisure and thrill-based attractions.
