Tobu Railway 100 Series Nikko Moude Spacia
The 100 Series, designed as a limited express-type EMU for services to Nikko and Kinugawa, earned the nickname “Spacia” due to its deluxe features. At its introduction in the early 1990s, it was among the most luxurious limited express trains on private railroads, with interiors that rivaled, and sometimes surpassed, those of JR’s limited express trains from the same era.
In 2015, units 103 and 106 of the 100 Series were repainted with a special gold and black “Nikko Moude Spacia” livery to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Nikko Tosho-gu, a renowned shrine in Nikko. This commemorative repainting highlighted the cultural and historical significance of the pilgrimage routes to Nikko, enhancing the visual appeal and recognition of the trains.
